7th Hole to Tahri Cave: 2-Day Caving Adventure

Venture into Oman’s most iconic cave system: descend through the legendary 7th Hole, camp deep underground, and traverse to Tahri Cave before emerging on the plateau. This two-day expedition blends vertical abseils, cave camping, and scenic hiking into a rare subterranean journey.

Trip Highlights:

✔ Three vertical abseils (120 m + 50 m + 100 m), descending a total of 270 m into a stunning underground chamber

✔ Overnight cave camping, BBQ around a campfire in complete darkness

✔ An epic 7-8 hour underground traverse through vast fossil galleries and rope sections

✔ Emergence via Tahry Cave, followed by a 4 km surface hike (2.5–3 hours) to the 4x4 pickup point

Itinerary:

🚗 8:00 AM – Pick-up from Your Location in Muscat Meet your guides and begin a 2.5-hour scenic drive to the Selmah Plateau in private 4x4 vehicles. The journey includes mountain views and a short off-road segment to the cave entrance.

🪢 10:30 AM – Arrival at 7th Hole & Preparation Arrive at the legendary 7th Hole. Gear up, receive a detailed safety briefing, and watch

as ropes are set. Our team ensures everyone is fully equipped and confident before the descent.

🧗 11:30 AM – Multi-Stage Abseil to Camp Chamber Begin a thrilling series of vertical descents - 120 m, 50 m, and 100 m - totaling 270 m into one of Oman’s largest underground chambers. Arrival at camp is expected around 6:00–6:30 PM, depending on group size.

🏕️ 7:00 PM – Camp Setup, Fire & Cave BBQ Set up camp in total darkness, deep inside the cave. We light a fire, prepare a warm BBQ dinner, and enjoy a peaceful night in this surreal and silent underground world.

🌄 6:00 AM – Wake-Up with Morning Light in the Cave Wake up as soft sunlight begins to filter through a high shaft in the chamber ceiling. Enjoy a light breakfast and prepare for the second part of the journey.

🧭 7:30 AM – Traverse to Tahri Cave Exit Begin a 7-8 hour underground traverse through fossil-lined tunnels, large chambers, and rope-assisted sections. With full guidance and support, you’ll make your way toward the Tahri Cave exit by around 3:30 PM.

🚶 3:30 PM – 4 km Surface Hike to the Vehicles After emerging from Tahri Cave, start a 4 km surface hike across rugged plateau terrain. This final stretch takes 2.5–3 hours, bringing you to the 4x4 pick-up point before nightfall.

🚙 6:30 PM – Return Journey to Muscat Relax in the vehicles as you make your way back to Muscat. Arrival is expected around 9:00 PM, completing one of the most unique and challenging underground expeditions in Oman.

Important Notes:

✔This is a challenging caving expedition requiring good physical fitness, comfort with heights, and readiness for long periods in complete darkness.

✔Participants should be prepared for multi-stage abseils up to 120 m, rope-assisted climbs, and a 7–8 hour underground traverse on the second day.

✔The route includes over 20 rope drops and exposure to narrow passages, wet sections, and uneven rocky terrain.

✔Overnight camping will be deep underground with limited facilities; the environment can be cool and damp.

✔All technical equipment is provided, but personal comfort gear (clothing, shoes, gloves) must be brought by participants.

✔Travel insurance covering adventure activities is included in the package.

✔This tour operates year-round, but weather conditions may affect timing and logistics.
