Itinerary Overview

Over four days the journey reveals a different side of the country: dramatic coastal cliffs, turquoise lagoons, tropical valleys, and the unique atmosphere of Salalah’s southern culture.

This is a road journey shaped by distance and contrast - where the rhythm of travel, ocean air, and vast open landscapes create a feeling of freedom rarely found elsewhere.

If you are looking to experience Oman beyond the mountains and deserts of the north, this coastal expedition invites you into the untamed beauty of the southern shores.

Day 1 – The Southern Road to Salalah

Early pick-up in Muscat and departure on the long southern route across Oman’s vast interior.
The journey itself becomes part of the experience, as the scenery slowly changes from northern mountains to open desert horizons.

The drive to Salalah takes around 9–10 hours with comfortable breaks along the way, including a lunch stop in Haima - the last quiet settlement before the long southern stretch.

By evening, the air becomes softer and more humid as the road approaches the coast of Dhofar.
Arrival in Salalah is followed by a relaxed sunset at Dahareez Beach, where the Arabian Sea meets the tropical atmosphere of the south.

Overnight: Samharam Resort Salalah

Day 2 – Western Salalah: Fazayah & Shaat Cliffs

The western coastline reveals some of Oman’s most spectacular scenery. The route passes Mughsail viewpoints and the famous abandoned shipwreck before reaching the legendary Fazayah Beach.

Here the turquoise sea meets dramatic cliffs and endless white sand.

For those seeking more exploration, an optional hike leads toward hidden lagoons near Shaat. The day ends high above the ocean at Shaat cliffs - one of the most breathtaking sunset points in southern Oman.

Overnight: Samharam Resort Salalah

Day 3 – Eastern Salalah: Mountains & Heritage

The eastern Dhofar region blends unique landscapes and culture. The day begins with a stop at the mysterious Gravity Hill and the winding road of Aqabat Hashir.

Walk among the rare baobab trees, then continue to the dramatic viewpoints of Jabal Samhan overlooking deep valleys and coastal plains.

Later, explore the historic Taqah Castle and the old coastal town of Mirbat before returning to Salalah.

Overnight: Samharam Resort Salalah

Day 4 – Fruit Markets & Return to Muscat

Before leaving the south, visit Salalah’s tropical fruit markets - a colorful reflection of the region’s unique climate and culture.

The return drive to Muscat crosses Oman’s vast interior landscapes once more, bringing the journey full circle.
