7th Hole to Tahry Cave Expedition

An overnight camping and caving adventure beneath Oman’s Salmah Plateau

Descend through three dramatic vertical drops, explore vast underground chambers and cross the cave system from the 7th Hole to the Tahry exit. This demanding expedition combines technical caving with an overnight camp on the remote Salmah Plateau.

Day 1 – Evening Departure & Salmah Plateau Camping 🏕️

• 🚙 6:00 PM – Departure from Muscat: Travel by 4×4 towards the remote Salmah Plateau.

• ⛰️ Evening – Arrival & Camp Setup: Settle into a traditional camping setup surrounded by the plateau’s rugged mountain scenery.

• 🍽️ Dinner at Camp: Enjoy dinner and meet your specialist caving team.

• 📋 Expedition Preparation: Review the following day’s route, check personal equipment and prepare for an early start.

• ✨ Rest Under the Stars: Enjoy the quiet mountain surroundings before getting some sleep.

🏕️ Overnight: Traditional camping on Salmah Plateau

Day 2 – 7th Hole Descent & Tahry Cave Crossing 🪢🔦

• ☕ Early Morning – Breakfast & Final Preparation: Have breakfast, put on your equipment and complete the safety briefing with your guides.

• 🪢 5:30 AM – Adventure Begins: Begin the expedition at the 7th Hole entrance, descending through four spectacular vertical stages of approximately 40 m, 2x 50 m and 100 m.

• 🌑 Deep Underground: Reach approximately 240 m below the surface and continue into the cave system.

• 🔦 Underground Traverse: Explore chambers, rock formations and connecting passages using a combination of walking, scrambling, climbing and rope techniques. Wet sections or swimming may be encountered, depending on conditions.

• 🥪 Breaks Along the Route: Pause for food, refreshments and photographs at suitable locations, with the pace managed by your guides.

• 💎 Secret Crystal Chamber: Visit a hidden chamber within the cave system, where intricate crystal formations reveal another side of Oman’s underground beauty. Take time to admire and photograph the formations, leaving them untouched.

• 🌤️ Exit Through Tahry Cave: Emerge into daylight through a different cave entrance, completing the underground crossing.

• 🥾 Return Hike: Walk approximately 5 km through the plateau landscape to reach the support vehicle.

• 🏁 Around 4:00 PM – Adventure Finishes: Time to change, rest and have refreshments before departure.

• 🚙 Return to Muscat: Travel back by 4×4, arriving in the evening.

🏕️ Traditional Camping Experience

Your plateau camp includes tents, sleeping bags, mattresses and a shared sitting and dining area, with a private changing/toilet tent equipped with a bidet. Our team handles camp setup and packing so you can focus on the expedition.

• Requirements: Good fitness and confidence with heights, confined spaces and a long day of physical activity
