Trip Highlights:

Where the Mountains Fall Towards the Sea 🌊
Follow a remote trail through the Qamar Mountains towards Ain Nakbat, where freshwater emerges high above Dhofar's coastal landscape.

Khareef Beyond the Viewpoints 🌿
Leave the popular roadside stops behind and enter the misty, rain-fed mountain landscape on foot.

A Serious Mountain Day ⛰️
This is not a short waterfall walk. Long distance, substantial elevation and changing terrain make Nakbat a rewarding challenge for strong hikers.

Forest, Fog & Open Views 🌫️
Move between dense vegetation and exposed mountain sections where breaks in the Khareef mist reveal sweeping views towards the Arabian Sea. This landscape character is also described by a local adventure operator.

Reach Ain Nakbat 💦
The destination is the remote spring and waterfall emerging from the limestone escarpment - reached only after earning every kilometre of the journey.

Itinerary:

🚙 Early Morning – Leave Salalah for the Qamar Mountains
Drive west from Salalah into the highlands of Dhofar, where the coastal landscape gradually gives way to the misty mountains of the Khareef.

🥾 Trailhead – Into the Mountains
Begin the hike high above the coast. The first section follows rugged mountain terrain through seasonal vegetation, with changing views across the escarpment.

🌿 The Long Approach to Ayn Nakbat
Continue deeper into the mountains over a demanding high-elevation route. During Khareef, expect green slopes, low clouds, wet ground and sections requiring careful footing.

⛰️ Descent Towards the Waterfall
As the route approaches Ayn Nakbat, the terrain becomes more dramatic and the waterfall landscape begins to reveal itself below the cliffs.

💦 Ayn Nakbat Waterfall
Reach the highlight of the journey: the remote waterfall and spring emerging from the limestone escarpment. Take time to rest, explore and enjoy an optional swim when conditions permit.

🥾 Return Across the Mountain
Retrace the same mountain route back to the trailhead. The return is physically demanding after the long approach and significant elevation changes.

🚙 Return to Salalah
Finish the route, change into dry clothes and prepare for the return journey. Drive approximately two hours back to Salalah.
